A rare and accomplished example of the Regency style in Victoria designed by local architect Edward Prowse in 1858 for the pastoralist George Armytage, with a legion of connections to the history and cultural identity of the district.
RBA completed a Conservation Management Plan for Armytage House in 2018.
We then went on to provide heritage advice to the design team - WMK Architecture and Indre - during the design and detailing of an addition to the rear, guiding the design of the interface between the old and new. Substantial negotiations with Heritage Victoria were required to achieve an outcome which was acceptable to all parties.
Subsequently, RBA were engaged as the appointed experienced conservation architects, overseeing a comprehensive scheme of repair and detailed reconstruction works. Key to this stage was the re-reinstatement of the impressive stone parapet, which had been missing for over 50 years, and delicate repairs to the verandah metal work.
The project outcome has secured the appreciation and safeguarded the signifiacnce of Armytage House, for the future, while the design team's additiona and adaptation to suit modern standards has created a welcoming space for its current occupants.
