The Majorca Building has been described as an irreplaceable part of Australia’s built heritage, within a streetscape that - even today - retains a predominant character and scale.
Located on the west corner of Flinders Lane and Centre Place, Melbourne, the Majorca Building is recognised as a primary heritage asset within the tourist core of the city. It was originally constructed as a seven-storey office building in 1928-30 designed by architect Harry Norris. The Spanish Moorish influence - its blue faience terracotta clad façade, tall arched openings and copper panels beneath the windows - places it firmly within the Melbourne tradition of exotic architecture in the late 1920s (the ‘jazz’ age).
In 2017, RBA were privileged with the task of preparing a Conservation Management Plan and Condition Assessment Report for the building.
