RBA was commissioned by the Shire of Strathbogie to identify and assess significant sites in this central Victorian shire, as many heritage sites were without protection.
The history of the shire was shaped in part by its location on the Hume Highway, and it was among the earliest parts of the State in which small towns were established. Subsequent development has been primarily agricultural. The shire had a substantial timber industry during the late 19th century and a smaller amount of gold mining and prospecting.
Communnity consultation was a key part of the process to understand which sites are significant to the local community. RBA held public meetings and produced a series of illustrated explanatory posters to facilitate the consultation process, outlining the purpose and structure of the heritage study. These posters were adopted by the shire for general display in local libraries. Stage One was undertaken during 2008 and Stage Two was completed in 2013.
