RBA was appointed Club Architect to The Australian Club in 1997 and during the ensuing long-standing relationship regularly provided architectural services and heritage management advice.
During our tenure we were able to develop a depth of familiarity and become embedded in the cultural values of the place – a position that enabled us to effectively guide and manage the evolution of the particular cultural sensitivities and sustainability challenges which arose.
Some of the projects undertaken included:
Adaptation of the former President’s Dining Room as a contemporary art gallery space, including introduction of state-of-the-art lighting and air conditioning, and associated plant.
Refurbishment of the Main Dining Room including substantial upgrade of the adjoining principal kitchen and restoration works to the spectacular centrally located glazed dome.
New decorative interior schemes to the Ellis Rowan, Fred Niall, Gurners Lane, Long, Strangers, Main Dining, and Billiard Rooms.
Refurbishment of the Grand Central staircase.
